FAQ & Why faux not real oak

Quite often we hear :

Just use oak planks and clad the RJS or make 3-sided box beams.

Length over 3 mtrs and you have to add joints. Width over 30 cm and a chance of twisting and splitting. 90° corners are not as rustic and splits and knots harder to add.

Real oak beams would be cheaper.

OK if you can find the right sizes. Transport them to the site. Employ builders. Carry the weight into the room, Cut out holes in the wall to fit. Get a good fit to the ceiling and accept the colours, grain as they are, then still treat and stain them.

PU DIY fit pre-moulded types.

More than one wanted, they all come from one mould. Same patterns, same style.

Being flat on the top, any uneven ceilings create fitting issues and lots of back filling.

Some need staining once fitted.

Over purchase of standard lengths with waste off cuts.

Many RSJ steel beams are now doubled up to cover building regulations. PU beams tend to be 4-6-8 inches maximum width. And 3-4 mtr max length so need joints covering.

Our philosophy is to look at each project with a design and realistic finish in mind.

Advice comes free from years of practice and concepts within each sector.
